Technical data:

  • What was needed: A checkweigher for industrial product lines that is manually height adjustable
  • Requirements: 100% lubrication-free and maintenance-free, durable, low friction, no corrosion, quiet and vibration-free operation 
  • Products used: dryspin® trapezoidal lead screw made of stainless steel, dryspin® flanged lead screw nut made of iglidur® J with thread dimensions 24x5
  • Success for the customer: The challenge to be met was mastered thanks to the dryspin® lead screw drives: Controlled lifting of the machine without impairing machine stability. Trapezoidal lead screws were used together with lead screw nuts. These were built into the scissor-type mechanism for height adjustment of the stand. The nut and lead screw had to turn easily since the stand is raised by hand.

Checkweigher

Problem

A checkweigher is a scale that is used to monitor the manufacture of goods according to weight criteria. A distinction can be made between static and dynamic checkweighers. Due to automation, self-actuating dynamic checkweighers are usually used in the production process, which measure their test object as it passes through. These must work perfectly in order to be able to guarantee a smooth process.

Solution

Various igus® components have proven themselves by meeting the appropriate requirements. The parts used in the height adjustment of the checkweigher had to be durable, require no lubrication or maintenance and be lightweight. For example, dryspin lead screw drives were used to manually adjust the height. The lead screw nut is made from the high-performance polymer iglidur J and is therefore 100% lubrication-free and maintenance-free. Thanks to the aluminium lead screw, the lightweight could be achieved. In addition, a load of 1,500N can be absorbed.
