The challenge

When using energy chains on machine tools, the cables and hoses are generally attached to the system after the energy chains have been installed. When assembled, the energy chains are more difficult to reach than if they are lying on a table. This poses a certain safety risk for fitters, who might fall down from great heights. A fall protection system, such as a three-point harness, should be provided. There are also problems such as kinking or damaging cables, which might be caused by the time-consuming installation on site. It is therefore always recommended to insert the cables and hoses beforehand.

Solution

To minimise hazards and risks, the customer opted for readychain® systems from igus®, pre-fitted, ready-to-connect energy chains. This enabled the fitters to significantly optimise the previous sequential assembly of individual parts. Many of the process steps involved in the subsequent harnessing of the energy chain, such as securing or developing a separation concept for the cables, could be eliminated. Another important aspect of the solution is the significant reduction in the number of complaints that used to arise in the past due to damage. In addition, the introduction of special serial numbers for the readychain® systems has increased the quality and efficiency of the entire series production. The customer also uses a QR code that directly provides information on the installed system.
